This feature records how far a worker was from the site’s map location at the moment they signed in. It helps verify on‑site attendance and highlights remote sign‑ins.
Go to Sites → [select a site] → Site Ledger.
The Dist column shows the distance for each sign‑in event (for example, 8.17 km).
Tip: If you don’t see a distance, the device didn’t provide a usable location or the browser/app did not have permission at sign‑in time.
At sign‑in, the browser/app requests the device location.
Worx Safety compares that latitude/longitude to the site’s saved map location.
The straight‑line distance is stored with the sign‑in event and shown on the Site Ledger.
Important: Accuracy depends entirely on the device and its settings at the moment of sign‑in.
Use these bands as a practical guide (actual site layouts vary):
0–50 m: On site or at the gate.
50–250 m: Near the boundary, car park, or adjacent street.
250 m–2 km: Likely off‑site or affected by a coarse location estimate.
>2 km: Very likely remote sign‑in or inaccurate device location.
Laptops and Wi‑Fi‑only tablets usually do not have GPS.
Location is derived from nearby Wi‑Fi networks or IP address and can be hundreds of metres to many kilometres off, especially on new builds, rural areas, or corporate networks.
Office Wi‑Fi can resolve to the ISP’s exchange or a head‑office location.
Recommendation: Prefer a smartphone with GPS for sign‑in.
If device‑level Location Services are off, or the browser/app is denied permission, no precise location is available at sign‑in.
iOS “Precise Location” or Android “Use precise location” disabled results in a coarse estimate or no reading.
Recommendation: Enable device Location Services and allow Worx Safety location access.
These can route traffic through distant gateways. If the device falls back to IP‑based location, the reading can appear far from the site.
Recommendation: Disable VPN/proxy during sign‑in if policy permits, or use a GPS‑equipped phone on mobile data.
GPS accuracy drops inside buildings, basements, tunnels, or urban canyons.
Recommendation: Sign in at ground level or near open sky when possible.
If a user signs in while driving or in transit, the distance may reflect that location.
Recommendation: Stop and sign in once at the site.
The site’s map location is the reference for all distance calculations.
When creating a site, enter a precise address or drag the map pin onto the correct entrance or centroid.
If the site spans a large area, place the pin where you want sign‑ins to be referenced (for example, the main gate).
Changing the pin affects all sign‑ins; previously stored distances will be updated with reference to the new location.
Use a smartphone with GPS.
Turn on Location Services at device level.
Allow location access for the Worx Safety app or your mobile browser.
Enable Precise Location (iOS) or Use precise location (Android).
Avoid VPNs/proxies during sign‑in if possible.
Sign in when stationary at the site.
iOS (app or Safari/Chrome): Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → On. Then Settings → [Worx Safety or browser] → Location → While Using + Precise Location On.
Android (app or Chrome): Settings → Location → On. App permissions → [Worx Safety or Chrome] → Allow Only while using and enable Use precise location.
Why is Distance blank or “—”? The device did not provide a usable location at sign‑in. See the checklist above.
Why does a laptop show several kilometres away? It likely used Wi‑Fi/IP geolocation, which is coarse without GPS.
Who can see the distance? Users with access to the Site Ledger for that site.
Does Worx Safety track me after sign‑in? No. Location is requested once at sign‑in and stored with the event. There is no continuous tracking.
Refresh the page/app and retry the sign‑in.
Toggle device Location Services off then on.
For browsers, clear any prior “Block location” decision and choose Allow.
Try a mobile device on cellular data instead of corporate Wi‑Fi.
Verify the site’s map pin is correct.
Distance on the Site Ledger is a point‑in‑time check. It is reliable when captured from a GPS‑equipped smartphone with proper permissions. Laptops, Wi‑Fi‑only devices, disabled location, or privacy tools can yield coarse or missing readings. Configure the site pin and worker devices to get consistent, audit‑ready results.
